How do you consider theoretical basics?

理論についてどう思いますか？

TE.

『I think it helps to have a knowledge of songs and also a repertoire of songs that you can learn from and to help your style. It's important to start with simple songs and get the technique of how to play it going. So you understand it, you can play it with a groove, you can play in time you can make the melody feel good and all that kind of stuff how it works in your brain is you start out by learning these simple songs and it sounds very mechanical and it is.』

理論に関しては

自らのプレイスタイルの助けになる様な

知識とレパートリーを習えると思います。

大切なのは単純な曲や技術から始める事で、

理解する、ノリながら弾けるようにする、

インテンポで弾けるようにする、

メロディがいい感じ聴こえるようにする

とかそういった事全般的に

こういった単純な曲から始める事で、

この行程は全て機械的にきこえますが

実際機械的なんです。

『Because it's not music yet. It's a skill. Your're learning a new skill when you practice that skill enough, it somehow your brain switches and you switch from thinking about all the skills that you're trying to remember and you start hearing the music or the melody. 』

何故ならまだ音楽ではないから。

新しい技術はその技術を

たくさん練習した時に身に付くんです。

そしてある時になるとどういう訳か脳は

その覚えた技術の事を気にしなくなって、

弾いているメロディを

意識出来るようになり始めるんです。

『This is what you're aiming at. This is what you're working for. So if you wanna play something say as complicated as lady madonna The Beatles song. When I work at Lady Madonna what I wanted do is to play the ' ~playing the song base riff~' and I wanted to play the singing part ' Lady Madonnay children at your feet.' I wanted to play both at the same time I had to work that out.』

これがあなたの目指すべきところで、

この為に練習を重ねているんです。

例えばビートルズのLady Madonnaの様に

難しい曲を弾くとしましょう。

私はベースのリフを弾きたいとして、

そしてメロディを同時に弾きたいとします。

これをどうにか上手い事

同時に弾かないといけません。

『So I had to learn this skill of going '~playing the riff and the melody~.' I had to work it out bar by bar and until everything worked and then I practice it for years until all I heard was '~singing Lady Madonna~' and how do I want to make the melody feel. So when I play it for you now everthing's going '~playing Lady Madonna~.' But my attention is on the feeling of the m
usic and the feeling of the melody. All the other stuff I've already practiced and taken care of.』

私はまずゆっくりと一小節ずつ

綺麗に聴こえるまで

これを同時に弾く為の技術を練習します。

そして何年もの間練習して

やっと今弾けているように聴こえる訳です。

今弾くとこういった様に弾けている訳ですが、

私の意識はもう曲と

メロディの表現に向いています。

弾く為に技術はもう既に練習済みで

習得済みなのです。

『So you start out learning the skills you practice it until the skills become music.』

初めは技術を学ぶところから始めます。

そしてその技術がやがては音楽になるのです。

Is daily practive important?

毎日の練習は重要ですか？

TE.

『I practive everyday. I practiced this morning at seven O'clock this morning. I was in my hotel room in Warsaw practiceing. I play songs and there are times when if I want to work on my strength and my skill, then I just practice strength and skill exercises I'll sit and go '~showing how to practice strength and skill~.' I sit and go so forth I go over and around and around and it works every muscle in your arm in you hand. I work with this as well '~showing his metronome~' which is why I have it. 』

私は毎日練習しています。

今日の朝も７：００に

ホテルの部屋で練習していました。

技術や演奏の体力をトレーニングしたい日があれば

私はひたすらずっと

そのトレーニングをしています。

（トレーニング風景を教えながら）

これをひたすら続けるわけです。

メトロノームも使っていますね。

『I work with the metronome and that's good for you to work with that kind of time.There are still songs that I play where I pull the time back or bring it forward or whatever but most of the time I like to play it with the metronome then you get an understanding of what time really is. 』

メトロノームは練習にはとてもいいですね。

曲によっては敢えてもたれたり

走ったりさせるのもありますが、

ほとんどの曲はインテンポで弾くのが好きです。

メトロノームを使用すると

ちゃんとした時間軸が

理解出来るのでとても練習になりますね。
